Overview Dashboard

The overview dashboard will show a summary of the app’s event activity. Each widget shows the total count of events that have occurred and the chart displays activity by week.

vextras mailchimp integration dashboard overview

  • Status – whether the app integration is on or off
  • Subscriber updates – how many times subscribers were updated in your MailChimp list. This number will increment each time a subscriber is added or updated.
  • E-commerce adds – how many times an ecommerce transaction is added to your MailChimp subscriber’s history.
  • Conversions – our system tracks what campaigns you send from MailChimp convert into a sale. This number will increase by a simple count i.e. 1, 2, etc. If you need more detailed reporting on campaigns, please refer to MailChimp’s reporting tool.

List

The list where customer data is sent to. When new orders occur, we submit to your chosen list in real-time. Please note, multiple lists are not supported.

Groups

  • When a new order occurs, you may apply a group and group option for each subscriber.
  • This can help when creating MailChimp segments for campaigns.
  • If you use a group, you must choose a group option as well.
  • Groups and group options are created in MailChimp, not in Vextras.
  • If a group value(s) are present for a subscriber, the new data submission will merge group options together if the group option submitted differs from the others.

Sending Filters

In most cases, the sending filter allows you to add subscribers based on their opt-in preference at checkout. At this time, WooCommerce is the only exception; please read the details below. Please note, if you change this setting after initial setup, it is not retroactive to previous data feeds into MailChimp.

3dcart

3dcart users have the option to send all customer data to a MailChimp list, or only those who opt-in at checkout. Please note, anonymous checkouts do not show a customer’s opt-in preference for this platform. Therefore, we are unable to subscribe customers automatically to any MailChimp list.

Bigcommerce

Bigcommerce users have the option to send all customer data to a MailChimp list, or only those who opt-in at checkout.

WooCommerce

WooCommerce users have the option to send all customer data to a MailChimp list, or only those who opt-in at checkout. Please note, the Vextras plugin must be installed to give customers the option to opt-in.

Volusion

Volusion users have the option to send all customer data to a MailChimp list, or only those who opt-in at checkout.

Subscriber Sync

  • If a someone unsubscribes from a MailChimp campaign or automation, we will automatically update their newsletter subscriber preference in Volusion, 3dcart or WooCommerce
    • At this time, we are unable to sync subscriber preferences back to Bigcommerce because of API constraints. Currently, their API allows for read only on this value, and can’t be updated.
    • Subscribers may be re-added to your MailChimp list via reconfirmation once they have been unsubscribed
  • If someone opts in through a 3rd party i.e. SumoMe that is connected with your MailChimp list, and a customer is found in your store with that email address, we will update that customer’s subscriber preference.

Merge Tags

When the Vextras MailChimp app is activated, we generate a predefined set of merge tags in your MailChimp account.

Auto-generated merge tags
  • First Name – *|FNAME|*
  • Last Name – *|LNAME|*
  • City – *|CITY|*
  • State – *|STATE|*
  • Zip – *|ZIP|*
  • Country – *|COUNTRY|*
  • Subscriber – *|SUBSCRIBER|*
  • Last Order – *|LORDER|*
  • Company Name – *|COMPANY|*
Important Merge Tag Information
  • All merge tags are in text format except the Last Order tag
  • The Last Order tag is structured in a date format – MM/DD/YYYY.
  • If a merge tag already exists, we will not create a new tag
  • Tag names must be identical or a new tag will be created
  • MailChimp has a limit of 30 merge tags per list. If you meet or exceed that number, our integration may not function properly. If this occurs, review your tags and either delete or merge duplicates.
  • If there is a required merge tag in your MailChimp list that does not match our auto-generated tags, submissions to MailChimp will fail
  • If an email address is present for John Doe, and then on a future order it’s for Jane Doe using the same email address – Jane Doe will be the person listed in MailChimp.
    • This is also true for any other merge value present e.g. city, state, zip etc.

Ecommerce Data

Our MailChimp app transfers order details to your list in real-time. You may view this under each subscriber after information is sent to MailChimp (under the ‘Ecommerce’ tab).

  • Order ID’s
  • Products bought
  • Quantities purchased
  • Purchase amounts

Ecommerce Notes
  • Product names, vendor purchased from information will only show up in a MailChimp segment after they have been ordered or sync’d
  • The MailChimp 2.0 API data (formerly known as ecommerce360 data) is not recognized once a store is migrated to the 3.0 API

Campaign Tracking

When e-commerce link tracking is enabled for a MailChimp campaign or automation, our system tracks purchase activity as it happens in real-time. Conversions are tracked by cookies, which are planted in the browser when someone clicks on your email. This allows you to visualize what campaigns are most effective.

When We Are Unable To Track Campaigns
  • If a user blocks cookie usage in their browser
  • If ecommerce link tracking in MailChimp is toggled off
  • Shopping carts with broken API connections
  • When an order feed filter in the Vextras MailChimp app is set to “Completed or Shipped”
  • Vextras installation and conversion tracking codes aren’t installed correctly
  • Vextras system outages or maintenance

Logs

Event logs are generated in the Vextras MailChimp app log area on any successful (or failed) event.

More Information

  • Subscriber information is sent over in the exact format that your store’s API provides. For example, if a customer name is in lowercase format in your store, it will transfer as lowercase format into MailChimp.
  • Data from new orders only flow into MailChimp, however we can orchestrate a custom data pull to grab older order information.
    • Custom data pulls will send over customer information based on your sending filter setting.
    • Custom data pulls will not include Amazon order or customer data.
  • Product categories are not supported in the MailChimp 3.0 API, “vendor purchased from” is mapped to the product manufacturer.
  • Abandoned carts are not supported in the MailChimp 3.0 API via Vextras.
  • This integration does not connect a newsletter signup form i.e. footer or pop-up, it only works with information when a user purchases something from your store.
