How To Get Your Volusion API (URL) Information

Before you can connect a Volusion store with any of our apps, you’ll need to locate your API Key (URL). Follow the step-by-step instructions below, or watch our how-to video to locate this information. Please note, you must have a Volusion ‘Pro’ plan or higher in order to have API access for your store.

Step-By-Step Instructions
  1. Login to your Volusion dashboard
  2. Go to your ‘Customers‘ tab, then select ‘Administrators‘
  3. Create a new Administrator
  4. Set the ‘Access Key‘ as ‘Administrator’ – note: you can also limit access to the API only in the ‘Customer Access Rules
  5. Login with your new Administrator account
  6. Once logged in, go to the ‘Inventory‘ tab and select ‘Import/Export‘
  7. Click on ‘Volusion API‘ tab
  8. Click the ‘Run’ button beside ‘Generic/Orders’
  9. Click the orange ‘Run’ button at the top of the page
  10. Copy the API URL that is generated at the top e.g.[email protected]&EncryptedPassword=6ECDE9F0FB
  11. Once you have a new key, you may setup (or update) your connection with Vextras and Volusion

  1. Is there a step missing? The API URL is automatically generated for the admin account that I am currently logged in as. I don’t see an option to change it to the admin account I created in step 3. Should I log out, then log back in as the new admin account I created in step 3 before moving forward?

  2. Hi there, I have followed the steps to create a permanent API URL but the drop down box won’t allow me to select the new admin email I just created..? It just pings back to an existing admin email address and generates the URL based on the admin I am actually logged in with…? The email address I just created for the perma URL has super administrator rights. Don’t understand why it won’t generate the API with the new email address..?

    1. Hey Nick, that is odd. Can you make sure you’ve got a password loaded for that user? If not, maybe try to delete that email > log out > log back in & try again. It could be a temporary Volusion caching issue.

  3. Hi Kyle, I think I’ve solved it. I think I used a password for the new admin which was already in use by another admin (this might be why it was pinging the drop down menu to another admin email address). When I deleted the new admin email and created a brand new admin with a never-used-before password it appears to have worked. I have now pasted the new API URL into my Vextras Store account and re-pasted the installation script into my Template HTML document. Thanks for the help!

  4. You should add Step 4b: Set the new Administrator to be a SuperAdmin, otherwise you won’t be granted access in the next few steps.
